McKinsey Publishes New Study on China’s Education and Job Training Needs

The McKinsey Global Institute issued a new report on China’s efforts to reskill and refocus on its workforce. The 128-page report notes that China may need to retrain 30% of the country’s workforce (as many as 220 million workers) by 2030 as the Chinese economy becomes more digitized and automated. The report, Reskilling China: Transforming the World’s Largest Taskforce Into Lifelong Learners, argues that China will need to transform its system of education and skills development to deliver the talent that is needed for “an innovative, digitized, post-industrial economy.” Without the changes, China will likely face drastic skills shortages among its workers.
